A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE slays at Cannes:

    NYTimes cannes blog:
""The History of Violence" shifts its tone faster and better than any film I can think of, and that is crucial to its point, purpose and power. It shifts radically from the deeply serious to the deeply unnerving to the outright parodic with breathtaking speed and effect. It slyly draws you into the pleasure of violence (Mr. Cronenberg outdoes John Woo in the film's "action" scenes), then makes you take uncomfortable stock of your laughter. In effect, it deconstructs the American action movie. And it is awesome."

Oooh! Ooh! Thanks for posting the link to the trailer!

OMFG that looks great - scarfaced Ed Harris and William Hurt as well, not to mention the classic Stranger Comes to a Small Town plot, which I love.

This looks great! Damn, I'm all bouncin' up and down now...

I picked up and read the graphic novel (which *is* available now: www.amazon.com/exec/obido...1563893673/ ) and yeah, it's a great story. I'm really looking forward to the Cronenberg take on it though. It's possibly closer to the direction he went with Spider.... character study and development, and not as much of a rehash on his standard storylines. You can still read analysis of the human condition into it, which is common within his previous works, but the fear of body, sublimation of identity seems to be absent (though now that I think about it, you could almost derive those themes as well from the History of Violence story... I suppose it all depends on how he ends up treating it).

Again, I am really looking forward to this film, it looks spectacular.
